Oh how very exciting - the RAD Exhibition opened in Seattle May 5th.

The ring a day challenge was awesome and what a privilege to have this exhibition funded by Etsy and the Society of North American Goldsmith and lots of other organisations.
What a privilege also to be included with some awesome metalsmith artists.

Very Exciting. My First exhibition ever well actually it is my second exhibition , the last one was at college many years ago.
So this exhibition will be taking place in Seattle. It is a exhibition of works and artists that took part in the Ring a Day Challenge. Metalsmiths from all over the world created 365 rings - a ring a day and uploaded there creations to the flickr group Ring a Day.
It has been sponsored by SNAG - Society of North American Goldsmiths.

Whooa Absolutely amazing.

Celebrating Amazing Flowers

SO I have decided to take the word and image of flowers and create things that reflect flowers. I have always been truly amazed at flowers... like how perfect are they.. the symetry is perfect, the colours are absolutely beautiful and then on top of it they smell - like roses are so perfect in smell - well i think. Maybe i am I am just a old sentimental! oh well.. I am just awestruck at flowers and when all is fruitless I just smell the roses and for that moment I am in heaven..anyway here are a couple of jewelry pieces created as a celebration of flowers.

The Shop has reopened - January 18th 2011 and some new work

Hi everyone,

I finally have reopened the shop and getting back into it.
I have worked out that it is easier to open a shop then close a shop.
Here is some pieces that I created while on holidays. But mainly I did nothing whilst on holidays. I hope that 2011 will be great for all of us. I suppose it is what we do with the days right!
Oh and i made another lapis piece. A pendant for myself. I will make a few more lapis pieces and put into the shop.

As always my designs are very diverse .... one day i may focus hopefully......

Wow it has truly been a big year. Growing in my craft, creating new and wonderful pieces, stamping some real amazing words and names onto metal for great people, and looking on the bright side of life as always!
I hope you all had a lovely christmas and looking forward to the New YeaR. 2011 will be what we make it right!!.
I will be trying to eat and live more of a healthier lifestyle. Good food and exercise is what it will be about in the new year.
Off course more jewelry and create some special pieces when they happen.

The highlight of my year is to be selected to be a participating artist in a exhibition to be held in Seattle in 2011.

A little about Gold - Filled products

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share a little bit about my experince with Gold Filled products.

With Gold prices so high .... this commodity is in demand..... and be careful dont sell of your gold for next to nothing.........

Anyway back to the gold filled.. when I started working with it I was a little skeptical but you know it is a great product. The only thing with it is that it can tarnish a little. But all you have to do is rub it and wow back to its shiny self. And the tarnishing is not unsightly it is just a couple of shades darker.

I am fairly impresssed with Gold filled. In these times where gold will just get more and more expensive then gold-filled is cool for those that like the look of the shiny yellow / pink metal.

Currently I offer a 5mm band in the shop however will probably in time offer other gold -filled products.

I also have bought the raw material - gold filled products of two different manufacturers and you know the quality can sometimes differ from company to company.

A photo of a little creation that I recently did.. It is not in the shop because I am still working this design out. This is like a prototype. Design is the solutions of little problems. The problem with this ring is the plate used in the dish is a little too thin so back to making it but with thicker plate and yet to get that delicate look and not a too chunky look.. I have realized that the photo of the gemstones I have purchased are really great and yet kinda ugly, and yet I wonder how true the photos are to the actual product I get.
I will post a picture of what the gems look like with my camera as soon as they arrive in the mail.
You know photos are tricky cause to get a good photo of a product it needs to be on macro and therefore a closeup and often the product appears bigger..!!
Have you bought something online and then when you get it it is smaller then the photo?? I have ..
I am going to try and take my photo on macro but getting a balance between a closeup and reality!
Anyway thats post for the day I will post photos of the gemstones when I receive them. xo

A New Addition ... Setting sapphires..... fun!

Well one of the rings that I have been wanting to make and finish is this band. It is sterling silver and I have set real tiny sapphires into this band. I have been studying gemstone setting at our local college - NMIT - My teacher is a great gemstone setter. He has set gems for the Sultan of Brunei and worked for many of the Jewelry companys in the UK and Europe. With gemstone setting you do need the tools including desk and other tools like the Foredom motor/tool to attach burs and cutters to enable one to set the stones. Patience was needed. Just loved setting this and cannot wait to do another one. Let me know what you think.........

Enameling and the looove of color

I just absolutely love color.... so I have always been interested in making metal shine with color. I have dreamed of owning a kiln .... then thought yikes not now my credit card cannot cope! I recently came across Painting with Fire. Painting with Fire is the work of Barbara Lewis. Painting with fire is all about Torch- Fired enamelling.

Effectively I dont need a kiln for now and that was music to my ears. I still am collecting all my supplies and am so excited to begin a journey of changing the color of metal. With enamels and this sort of work I will be working actually outside so that there is lots of ventilation. This is important. I love color and cannot wait to get started. Hopefully it wont take me another 6 months?? You know how it is too much to do and no time to do it in. Barbara has a great shop on Etsy that sells her supply creations and a shop that features her jewelry.
Those beads are great and would make great additions to those amazing creations of yours.... She has a blog and a Ning group. Also for Barbara runs workshops for those of you who would like to play with fire:)

Cursive font .........

I just wanted to share the cursive font that can be used in the personalised ring.

And shortly I will be making these in a gold filled ring. So gold filled rings of 4mm that can be personalized. They will be slightly different in style but they will be gold for those who like the look of the yellow metal. I wear both gold and silver.

Sunday Morning and spending way too much time on computer

So just thought I would change background colour - color.
Just having fun playing. Cant wait til Monday so I can get to work creating more work.
Spent the weekend lazing around being on the computer and watching TV.
I watch a wonderful 16 year old ~ Jessica Watson ~ be welcomed into Sydney harbor after sailing around the world for 9 months.

She sailed solo, circumnavigated the world unassisted. What a clever brave teenager.

And when interviewed she said she had a dream and just did it.

She is passionate about sailing , had a dream and went for it... Wow! it is all possible if you are in the right space I suppose.

Below is a most interesting sculpture piece that I saw on holidays just recently. My family took me to Sydney for a couple of days for my birhday... It was created by Tom Bass in 1966. It is metal recessed into a marble/granite wall of a skyscraper. I liked it :) I think what I like most about the work was that some of the metal had a patina of green colour on the surface of the metal... Yummy greens on metals ... well sort of!!

Loved making these. The earrings had its challenges - mainly holding on to it to set the gemstone ....
I Think I prefer setting faceted stones instead of cabochons........Even though my next little project is a massive gree turquoise stone...... Its just fun....

Some NEW WORK

The other day I just thought that at the end of the day my job is to create... So I just decided I need to get on with it and create some new pieces of work. Not aim at any market or anything just simply to create. I absolutely had a wonderful day. Worked hard and came up with some new pieces of work. One of the amazing things is the work that you think wont turn out actually turns out the best.. Amazing really:)
A little about these particular rings: Ring 1 - silver bands soldered together and then filed and another piece of silver added in . This piece has hearts stamped on. The next ring is a piece of abalone shell set into a bezel. I absolutely love abalone shell and have worked with this shell for about 12 years now. Just am mad about the colors of this shell. I will be doing more settings with this shell. The last is simply a wide sterling silver piece formed and soldered into a ring. It can be personalized. These rings were made for the RAD or ring a day challenge on Flickr. Had a fun day doing these......

We are well into 2010. I just thought I would post a little about whats happening with designs and things that I am doing. It is so hard to keep focused on what sort of designs to create. There is all this talk about niches. I wish I could find my niche a little. I am going to attempt to do this this year. I am sort of thinking that I will create some gold stack rings, chunky style! and some more kinda gemstone stack rings. Feel free to leave a comment on what you would like to see more of!
What I do need to do is stay of the computer and get back into the studio.
I will post the new styles as they come along. I just want to thank everyone for the follows and checking in on my blog from time to time. My only wish is that I could give everyone a giveaway.. wouldn't that be great. Like Oprah right!!:)

Hey Everyone the Turqouise stones have arrived and guess what they are real tiny. The tricks of photography. It is true sometimes those photos make things a look a lot bigger. Anyway they are here and I am going to make stud earrings from them. The bezels are being made as we speak.
Here is a picture of step 1. Bezel making.

Picture 2. Photo of finished stud earrings. I am not making this available in the shop cause I am not totally happy with the quality of the gemstone pieces. I will have to make some from better quality gemstones - bought from a reputable merchant.

A photo from a pearl farm back to the main land of Taveuni in the Fijian Islands. This is were I was born. Love the Islands. My thoughts and prayers are with Fiji. May the Japanese not fish their waters so they have no more fish left. That is what is happening? Some govt official has benefitted and allowed the Japanese to have fishing rights till 2014... I hope is 2014 someone will not sign and allow more commercial fishing by another nation. Urgh!! Sorry just having my rave!
